MICHAEL OWEN

"Oh yes, Michael Owen is slow but still deadly in front of goal"

Signing Michael Owen would be a tantalising proposition for most Premier League managers.A fully fit Owen is always worth consideration — goalscorers are game-changers and he has been one of the best.

He still has something to offer a  top-flight club; there’s no problem in front of goal when he gets those chances.

He is not as quick as he was but has changed his game and now comes a lot deeper to receive the ball . He is a better  all-round player.

It worries me that he has not found a club yet because his fitness would be the biggest concern. You would ideally want to bed him into a club very early and get a pre-season under his belt.Ordinarily, when someone becomes available who has Owen’s injury record, you would not take the risk — but because it is Michael Owen, managers are maybe more willing to give him an opportunity.

So this next move should not be about money, it should be about wanting to play football again. If that is the case then I’d imagine there would be many managers queuing up to take him on.
